Here it is in all its glory, a newer, better version of myself. Hopefully.
I am Chris, and I want to show my journey as Maker38 UK.
Firstly, I should point out that I’m not a professional, but I’ve a keen mind for design and have a knack for visualising and making small things which, up until this point, have gone largely undocumented online.
My previous incarnation of Trace Elements was good for things that were some form of artwork, but I’m not an artist and it didn’t cover what I’m planning to do. I’m a tinkerer, dabbler, hobbyist, but also a maker. The creative element in me isn’t restricted to just 2D so now I can expand.
I’m no longer just going to dabble in the poly art stuff, but I’m not going to forget it either. I’m going to start posting about all the jobs I undertake on the house and outbuildings as well as some new projects I’ll be sinking my teeth into once the garage workshop is fully operational. I did a quick list of things that are already on the ‘to do’ list and hit twenty things without breaking a sweat, so hopefully there will be plenty of content to trawl through in the future.
I also have some ideas of how to combine some of the poly art effects with some 3D materials as well as getting my hands dirty with some new materials and techniques so there’s going to be a fair bit of experimentation to come. I know now that not all of it will work, but that’s part of the fun in the first place. Throw enough poop at the wall and some is going to stick.
So, new name means new logo.
I was going to use Futura until I heard Mike Montgomery’s comments on an episode of the Modern Maker Podcast. Dammit Mike, I had almost twenty versions that used either Futura or a knock off derivative (I think Josefin from Google Fonts was a strong contender). Don’t worry, I’m not salty, there’s a ton of alternative ideas I had and ultimately you’re right. Even my wife agrees with you and, if I’m being honest, she’s usually right.
The end result is hopefully quite clear and simple and easily repeatable for all the different formats it will be used. It’ll probably change over time, but for now this is me.
