YOU'RE MAKING a...Stomp rocket | |
|---|---|
| To infinity and beyond! Well, at least aim to launch above a few metres. You can use a foot pump, valve and plastic bottle to supplement your build and concentrate new efforts on the rocket and launch pad, or you can go all out and build everything from scratch. NASA will be knocking on your door! Further ideas & starting points So many factors to consider here as it is literally rocket science, but to keep things simple look at basic aerodynamics of the rocket shape along with some stabilising fins. Having a guide rail might be handy if the rocket isn't going upwards to start with, but you will then also need to keep friction to a minimum depending on how your rocket is mounted. Once you've got a roughly working version, keep refining it until you can consistently repeat the launch and get the same heights. Or perhaps the sky is the limit and you want to keep improving and go higher. If so, how high can you manage? Just check in your local area for rules/laws on launching stuff up in the air, especially if you live near an airport! | |
OUT OF...Pallets | |
|---|---|
| This isn't just any wood, this is beaten up and pre-used. Find as many pallets as you need and be sure to get permission before nabbing them. Also be sure to clean the wood up properly after removing any rusty nails carefully. | |
USING...Power tools only | |
|---|---|
| Corded or battery, hand/bench/floor standing, it's up to you, but you must use "powered" tools. Materials that need pouring are exempt from this rule, but should still be finished with power. Measurement and marking tools don't count. | |

Be sure to add #m38project to any online posts and tag @maker38uk if you can. Always great to see what gets created.
Further info
Most of these project ideas and options have been selected to be as accessible as possible to a wide range of people. They should be considered as starting points for your own ideas and plans to be developed from and are intentionally ‘open’ so that different makers will create different designs whilst overcoming the challenges of the material and tool restrictions that have been chosen for them.
Depending on the limitations of someone’s workshop the generated project might not always be suitable, so if that happens you can just generate another.
The above doesn’t limit you from sanding, adding polish or finishes, and above all else, make sure that however you’re working on a project that you do so safely and with supervision or help where necessary.
Top thing to remember, have fun with this. Be inventive, share the challenges you faced and also let everyone see what you created.

I’m always looking to improve the Project Maker, so if you’ve got any suggestions or notice anything that needs updating, then please let me know.
